SHOULD I PRACTICE POSING LOOKING AT THE MIRROR?

Once upon a time there was living a beautiful girl who wanted to become a model and every day she was practicing and developing her posing skills in front of the mirror! Long story short she went to Far Far Away on shooting with a great photographer and she was sure that photographer will be in love with her posing and help her to become a real model. But old witch put a spell on the beautiful girl and she forgot everything she was practicing for years and she couldn't remember any pose without her magic mirror. Cool photographer became angry that girl wasted his precious time and push her away from his studio. The end!

And blah blah blah!

Hi there! Of course, we all know that old witch didn't put any spell, right? So what has happened to a beautiful girl? She was practicing so hard near the mirror but when she came to the studio she couldn't remember anything!

Well guys, you should realize that when you are posing looking at the mirror you can't remember the way you pose, you just see the way you look at that moment. This will never help you during the real shooting,  because you will only become addicted to the mirror and it will be so difficult for you to pose without it.

WHY YOU SHOULDNT PRACTICE NEAR THE MIRROR?

-  You can't see yourself from aside

- You will not remember the pose

- From different height and angle, this pose will look absolutely different than you see in the mirror

- With different light, it will also look absolutely different and not always good

- It will teach you of "stone posing"  and it is the most awful thing which can happen with a model. You always should change and be different and the way you should change depends only on particular situation and style of shooting.

HOW YOU SHOULD PRACTICE

- Ask your friend to shoot you with a mobile phone, this way you will see all your mistakes.

- Always change places where you pose, because you need to understand which light suits you more

- Try to remember how you feel during the posing, this will help you to remember the pose.

- Record a video just for 1 minute and try to change as many poses as you can but don't forget to stay in each position at least for 3 seconds.

PORTFOLIO - IS IT IMPORTANT?

PORTFOLIO - IS IT IMPORTANT-.jpg

Hi, guys!

Today we will talk about Model Portfolio: what is good portfolio, why it is so important and which mistakes models do in creating it.

There are hundreds of girls and boys who want to become a model but unfortunately not all of them realize how important to have good professional Portfolio. In such huge cities as New York it is quite difficult to be noticed because model agencies don't have enough time to look through all applications they get and check skills of all models who visit open calls. So you should IMPRESS them in a short period of time and show something special, something that will show not only your appearance but also your skills.

Poraloids or Snap shots are good but it is not enough to make a quick decision. You can have the best face ever but it doesn't mean that you are good in posing, that it is easy for you to change styles, that you feel confident during the shooting, that you have personal charisma and of course that you are good at catwalking. So this is the reason why nobody hurries up to write you back and sign you after seeing your Polaroids because there are dozens of the same files agencies get every day.

Open call - is also a good way to show yourself BUT sometimes it is useless because most of models feel shy and hide their charisma and ONE OF THE MOST BIG PROBLEM is that some models don't look bright in real life and only during the shooting photographers and agencies can see that model is a future star because camera loves her so much that each picture looks editorial (perfect example is Kate Moss, i met her several times on the street and in studio and i can surely say that it is 2 absolutely different people! In real life she is very usual, doesn't look like super model, quite short and i would say she looks unhealthy BUT if you see how she works in studio it is just pure magic and each photo with her is masterpiece)

So, PERFECT PORTFOLIO consist of:

- good photographer. Of course we all understand that quality of photos depends on photographer so please guys, don't choose professionals who work free or charge too low price. Photographer for your portfolio should be really great, yes i know that it takes time to find such person and i know that it cost quite much but REMEMBER that your Portfolio is your  ONLY and BEST chance to show yourself and as long as you have good photos you will use them 1-2 years and i think it is great investment in your future! Photographer should have experience in working with models, photographer should feel you and see the best ways to present you.

personal style. Guys you don't need to copy famous top models or copy advertising of fashion brands! Your Portfolio should show only YOUR BEST SIDES, YOUR SKILLS because you MUST remember that YOU ARE UNIQUE and nobody else in this world looks like you and this is your goal!

- minimum  4 different styles. The main aim of portfolio is to show your ability to pose for different styles of clothes, different kind of advertising and to prove that you can easily change. So minimum of what you should have in your portfolio:

BEAUTY (head shots will show your skin and shape of your face and it is important for brands which produce make up and all kind of cosmetic) ,

FASHION (will show your ability to pose for fashion catalogues and high fashion advertising),

GLAMOUR (or Hollywood style will show how you look in evening dresses and if you are good for commercial shooting),

SWIMSUIT (will show shape of your body and your ability to work for brand which produce lingeries and swimsuits)

- polaroids or snap shots

- video of your walking and your short interview (name, age, height, body dimensions)

YOU SHOULDN'T DO IF YOU WANT GOOD PORTFOLIO:

1. DON'T agree to shoot with any photographer who offers shooting. Guys, remember that it is your future career and check website and Instagram page of photographer before agree to shoot. Because it better to have couple of great photos in portfolio than 1000000 of awful.

2. DON'T  take just couple of T-shirts and one jeans on shooting. I repeat it is  YOUR FUTURE CAREER so please take as many different outfits as possible and then photographer and stylist will choose the best or just hire a stylist who will bring clothes from show rooms.

3. DON'T copy top models! Remember you are not Adriana Lima and trust me you don't need it! Be yourself and show your best because you are UNIQUE

I attach example of good portfolio! I was shooting amazing aspiring model Bianca Bush and would love to show her portfolio!

i hope this information was useful to you!

Photo posing and reality!

DSC_6265.jpg

Hi, guys! I haven't written anything here for a long time, I am so sorry just didn't have any single minute among travelings and shootings.

Well, during my 10 years of experience I was working as a photo model, makeup artist, and a stylist and now thank's God I am photographer and I am happy that I found myself))) But all of that experience helped me to understand photo process from all sides and I feel blessed!

I was working with huge amount of top models and was published in numerous magazines around the world and I have realized that I have so so so so much information to share and I am sure that it will help young and professional models to develop and improve their skills.

I have noticed that nowadays there are hundreds of workshops and classes for models but most of them really don't help because there is or not enough practice or there no proper classes about different styles of photo posing. Most of models don't know simple rules which they should follow during the shooting and it is very strange for me. Models don't realize how photo posing is important for their career because only with its help they will know:

  •  how to pose with a different kind of light
  •  how to work with emotions
  •  how to present a bag, shoes, dress
  •  how to pose in different styles and actually why those styles exist
  •  how to show best sides during the shooting
  •  how to feel confident ( because 70% of models feel shy and don't know what to do in front of    the camera and it will definitely not help them working for different brands.
  •  what they should and shouldn't do with hands during different styles of shooting
  •  and many many many many many  other things

There are top 5 problems:

1. Models don't see themselves from aside, so they even don't know they pose wrong

2. They get 90 percent of theory and of course they forget to use that information. Posing classes MUST be 99% of PRACTICE and only that way it will work

3. For one class you can't get all information which people were learning for years !!! and if somebody will tell you that you can so please don't believe. It can only work if it is Workshop with one narrow topic!

4. Models feel shy and they don't listen to the photographer!! It very big mistake because only collaborating together and feel on one page they can produce something great together.

5. Models always want to look like somebody (Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Naomi Campbell and others)  and it is also great mistake because you will never be noticed looking like somebody and of course you will never be Adriana Lima because you are different person and you can be or worse or better than her but anyway who needs that??? It is much better to create your own style and show it and it will 100% unique because NO ONE ALSE LOOKS LIKE YOU!

Guys, so I decided to create something that will 100% help you to become the best and I will present my project soon!
